NORTHEAST NEBRASKA COMMUNITY COLLEGE: Pre-Med

Alexandria Knowlton

Thanks to the Mentor Foundation for the scholarship, I am more confident I will achieve my dreams and pursue my passions. Having this assistance will allow me to focus on school and become a mentor myself.

I come from a small family, parents and a younger brother.  I live in a small town and the best part of that is you experience city and country life.  I value my parents very much. I have watched them give everything even as things look like they will fall apart.  I didn’t think I would be able to go to college, but now I am a first generation student. My parents are very proud that I’m making a difference not only in the family, but for others in this world. They told me I have a good story to tell the world and I can inspire people. My parents have taught me many valuable lessons, such as integrity, working hard, put your best feet forward even if it’s hard, make every moment count, and many more. The saying,“Our parents know everything,” is true. The best decision my parents made is finding a mentor for me.

I have been with TeamMates since I was a 6th grader and am now currently entering my sophomore year in college. I have been with two mentors and they have been absolutely amazing.  I have been hopeless so many times, yet they have been by my side to push me to be my best. I wouldn’t be where I am today without a mentor.  My mentors have built my self-confidence and skills that I use every day. They also showed me doors to open that I would have never seen. I am very grateful for that.

I am attending Northeast Community College to obtain a degree of science. With the encouragement of my mentor, I became very active in school. I joined a student leadership group and student activities. I also became a tutor to both college and high school students.

I will be graduating in the spring of 2017. I plan to transfer to a nursing school or pre-med school to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. My dream is to work with the program, Doctors  Without Borders, and then work with children. Helping people in any way is my passion.

Because of this scholarship from Mentors I can follow my dreams. Thank you for seeing the potential of me being successful in achieving my goals. The best part about receiving is I can give back now and in the future. I would give anything by be a mentor to middle or high students. I know how much it impacts lives. TeamMates and the Mentors have made a huge difference in my life. I want to be a part of making a difference in others.  If you don’t have a mentor, I strongly agree of talking to someone and asking for one.
