For the past three years TeamMates provided me with two wonderful mentors that pushed me to learn and grow as I transitioned from high school to college. It was incredibly rough at first, considering I had no idea what I was doing and no friends to help me along the way. But my amazing post-secondary mentor, Loni, was there to set me back on my feet and start guiding me on my collegiate journey. Through my mentors I gained valuable skills and traits that I will carry with me throughout life, with efforts to share what I’ve learned as a teacher, coach, and mentor.
To me the important skills that I’ve learned is that of charity and community and the value of mentoring. When I was in high school I had this dream of becoming a teacher and a coach, but I didn’t have the funds to make college a reality. Through the financial generosity of Mentors I learned that dreams really can come true. Because of their empowerment and charitable nature I decided that I was going to make it my life goal to impact and help others just as those programs had done for me. Through being a mentor, participating in community service, and giving back I too can impact other young people as they climb their ladder of success. Thank you Mentors for everything that you have provided and done for me. It has certainly influenced me to help change the world through the power of mentoring.
