When I first applied for a scholarship I was completing my undergraduate degree with aspirations to become a physical therapist and provide care to Indigenous populations. I am ecstatic to share that I have graduated from A.T Still Health Science University with my Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy. It has been a life goal to become a physical therapist and with the support of Mentors Foundation and opportunities for mentorship I have achieved that goal.
I am White Mountain Apache and my vision has been to serve Indigenous populations. While attaining my degree I was able to return to Whiteriver Arizona and complete a clinical rotation at the Whiteriver Indian Hospital serving my people. It was an incredible feeling knowing I was able to take my knowledge and skills back to my people and serve them. The gratitude I felt while on this rotation was amazing and the people helped remind me of my ultimate goal, of providing care to Native populations.
I have currently accepted a position as a Physical Therapist at Gila River Healthcare where I will be providing care to the Gila River and surrounding Indigenous communities in Arizona. With my education and new position, I will be able to serve a very deserving population and share my knowledge and skills with this community.
