Hello, my name is Jonas, and I come from Haiti. Growing up as the seventh of eight children, life was a daily struggle. Despite the hardships, my family remained resilient and close-knit, supporting each other through tough times.
At the age of ten, I made a brave decision to leave Haiti in search of a brighter future for myself and my family. With determination as my guide, I embarked on a challenging journey to the Dominican Republic, enduring hardships that tested my spirit. Two months later, I encountered my mentor Jaci, a compassionate soul who changed my life forever. With her unwavering support, I finally arrived in the United States in 2018, ready to pursue an education and build a new life.
Starting school in a foreign land without knowing English was daunting, but I embraced the challenge with vigor. Placed in 6th grade, I immersed myself in learning the language and adapted to a new culture. The following year, I found a second home with my adopted grandparents, who embraced me as their own. Through relentless effort and dedication, I overcame academic hurdles and graduated high school with a 3.2 GPA in 2023—a moment of immense pride for my family and me.
Today, as a member of the Lancaster Football Club. I have been honored with the position of house captain within our soccer club—a role awarded to only one of the sixty members, in recognition of dedication, hard work, and leadership. This accolade is not just a personal achievement but a testament to the support and guidance I have received from Mentors. It serves as a significant milestone in my journey towards building a solid foundation for a career post-graduation.
I stand grateful for the opportunities and support that have shaped my path. I am continuing my education driven by the belief that with perseverance and determination, anything is possible. I hope my journey inspires resilience, perseverance, and the unwavering belief that dreams can be achieved through hard work.
