This summer, I had the life-changing opportunity to attend Hampton University’s Pre-College Program, an experience that strengthened my academic confidence, cultural pride, and long-term goals. I was able to participate thanks to the generous support of the Mentor Foundation, whose gap-funding made this entire journey possible. I am truly grateful for their belief in my potential and their commitment to helping students like me grow.
At Hampton, I immersed myself in rigorous college-level courses, lived in the dorms, and learned how to balance independence with responsibility. The academic expectations pushed me to think deeper, write stronger, and manage my time more intentionally. Being in that environment showed me what it takes to thrive in college, and gave me the confidence that I can.

What made the experience even more powerful was the sense of community. I was surrounded by ambitious students from across the country, all motivated to excel in their futures. Hampton’s warm, uplifting atmosphere and its celebration of Black excellence helped me feel both seen and inspired. The faculty and mentors on campus challenged me academically while encouraging me personally, and the friendships I built have stayed with me long after the program ended.
I returned home with a renewed purpose: to push myself academically, to lead with intention, and to continue uplifting the young students I mentor in my community. The Mentor Foundation didn’t just help fund a summer program, they opened a door that expanded my vision of what’s possible. Their support allowed me to experience something transformative, and I carry deep gratitude for the role they played in my journey.
